Bishr told us, he said: Yazid told us, he said: Saeed told us, on the authority of Qatada, {And by the star when it goes down - your companion has neither strayed nor has he gone astray} He said: Utbah ibn Abi Lahab said: You have disbelieved in the Lord of the star, so the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Do you not fear that the dog of Allah will eat you?” He said: So he went out on a trade trip to Yemen, and while they had camped, he heard The voice of the lion, so he said to his companions, I am being eaten, so they surrounded him, and he was struck on their ears and they slept, then he came until he took him, and they heard nothing but his voice
Ibn Abd al-A'la narrated: Muhammad ibn Thawr narrated: Ma'mar narrated on the authority of Qatada that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, recited: {And the star when it goes down}. Ibn Abi Lahab, I think, said: His name is Utbah. You have disbelieved in the Lord of the star. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Beware lest the dog of God eat you.” He said: So he struck his head. He said: Ibn Tawus said on the authority of his father that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Are you not afraid that God will unleash His dog on you?” So Ibn Abi Lahab went out with some people on a journey until, while they were on some of the road, they heard the sound of a lion. He said: “He only wants me.” So his companions gathered around him and put him in their midst, until when they slept, the lion came. So he took him from among them.
On the authority of Hannad ibn al-Aswad, he said: Abu Lahab and his son Utbah had prepared themselves for Ash-Sham, so I prepared myself with them. His son Utbah said: By God, I will go to Muhammad and harm him for the sake of his Lord, glory be to Him, the Most High. So he set out until he came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and said: O Muhammad, he disbelieves in the One who came near, so he came close and was two bow lengths away or even nearer. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said : “O God, let one of your dogs attack him.” Then he turned away from him and returned to his father, who said: “O my son, what did you say to him?” He mentioned to him what he had said, so he said: What did he say to you? He said: He said: “O God, send upon him one of your dogs.” He said: O my son, by God, his supplication does not make you feel safe. So we set out until we reached Abraha, which was in a fortress. Then we went down to the cell of a monk. The monk said: O group of Arabs, what brought you to this country? For lions roam in it as sheep roam. So he said to us: Abu Lahab: You have recognized my advanced age and my right, and this man has cursed my son with a curse, and by God I do not trust it to befall him. So gather your belongings to this minaret and spread out a bed for my son on it, then spread out a bed around it. So we did that, and the lion came and smelled our faces, but when he did not find what he wanted, he withdrew and jumped up and behold, he was above The goods, so he smelled his face, then defeated him, so he split his head, and Abu Lahab said, I have known that he will not escape from the call of Muhammad. Al-Hafiz Ibn Asakir mentioned with his chain of transmission to Habbar ibn al-Aswad, may God be pleased with him, that when Utbah ibn Abi Lahab went out on a trade trip to Ash-Sham, he said to the people of Mecca, “Know that I am a disbeliever in the One who came near and descended.” His words reached the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he said, “God will send upon him one of His dogs.” Habbar said, “So I was with them .” So we camped in a land where there were many lions. He said, “I saw the lion come and sniff the heads of the people one by one until he crossed over to a threshold and cut off his head from among them.” Ibn Ishaq and others mentioned in the biography that this was in the land of Zarqa, and it was said in Sarat, and that he was afraid that night and that they made him sit among them and slept around him, then the lion came and began to roar, then he passed them to him and crushed his head, may God curse him.
