Did the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, drink alcohol?
. A weak doubt by Christians and missionaries in their desperate attempts to undermine our noble Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace.
The doubt:
How can a prophet from God drink alcohol? Did the Messenger of Islam drink alcohol?
What is wine?
Answer:
Anything that is mixed with water, milk, or other things is wine.
It was stated in the Lisan al-Arab dictionary, version 2.02 - by Ibn al-Manzur al-Ifriqi:
Nabth: throwing something from your hand in front of you or behind you.
Nabathtu al-shay’ anbihhu nabdhan if you threw it from your hand, and nabbathuhu, doubled for abundance.
Nabthat al-shay’ also means throwing it away and sending it away.
From this is the hadith: ((So he threw his ring, so the people threw their rings)).
That is: he threw it from his hand.
And every throwing: nabth; nabadha yanbihhu nabdhan.
Nabdh: is well-known, one of the wines.
Nabdh: is the thing that was thrown away.
Nabdh: is what was thrown away from juice and the like.
He has made wine, renounced it, renounced it, renounced it, and renounced it. I made wine if I made it. The common people say: I renounced it.
In the hadith: ((They renounced and renounced it)).
Al-Lahiani said: Nabath dates means he made them into wine. He also said: So-and-so renounced dates.
He said: It is rare, and it is called wine because the one who makes it takes dates or raisins and renounces them in a vessel or a water skin over them and leaves them until they boil and become intoxicating. Nabdh means
throwing away, and that which does not intoxicate is permissible, but if it intoxicates, it is forbidden.
Nabdh is mentioned repeatedly in the hadith, and it is what is made from drinks from dates, raisins, honey, wheat, barley, and others.
It is said: I renounced dates and grapes if I left water on them to become wine, so it was changed from mafool to fa’il.
And I made it into wine, whether it was intoxicating or not, it is called: wine, and the wine squeezed from grapes is called: wine, just as wine is called: wine.
And he threw the book behind his back: he threw it.
And it came in the hadith of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, that was not judged in Ad-Durar As-Sunnah by Al-Albani, may God have mercy on him (that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said to him on the night of the jinn: What is in your utensils?! He said: I said: Wine. He said: Good dates and pure water, so he performed ablution with it) Mishkat Al-Masabih 459.
So wine, as is indicated in the hadith, is water in which a small amount of dates has been placed, which makes the water taste sweet, and it is not as the infidels claim about the Messenger of God and the best of creation, may the best prayers and peace be upon him.
Drinking wine and juice is permissible by consensus before it boils (i.e. ferments). The evidence for its permissibility is
the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, as narrated by Abu Dawud, al-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah. He said: I knew that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was fasting, so I prepared his breaking of the fast with wine that I had made in a gourd, then I brought it to him, and it was boiling (i.e. fermenting). He said: “Throw this against the wall, for this is the drink of one who does not believe in Allaah and the Last Day.”
Ahmad narrated on the authority of Ibn ‘Umar regarding juice, he said: “Drink it as long as the devil does not take it.” It was said: “In how many days does the devil take it?” He said: “In three days.” I said: “In three nights.”
Muslim and others narrated from the hadith of Ibn Abbas (that raisins were soaked for the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he would drink them that day, the next day, and the day after until the evening of the third day, then he would order that it be given to the servant to drink or poured out).
I said: The meaning of his saying that the servant should be given to drink is what Abu Dawud said: The meaning of giving the servant to drink is that it will spoil quickly, and the likelihood of that is what exceeds three days.
Muslim and others narrated from the hadith of Aisha (that she used to make some water for the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, in the morning. When it was evening and he ate dinner, he would drink with his dinner. If there was anything left, she would pour it out or empty it out, then she would make some water for him at night. When morning came, he would eat lunch and drink with his lunch. She said, “She would wash the waterskin in the morning and the evening.”)
I said: This does not contradict the hadith of Ibn Abbas mentioned above, that he used to drink today, the next day, and the day after until the evening of the third, because the three contain an addition that is not contradictory, and all of them are in the Sahih.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I forbade you from visiting graves, so visit them. I forbade you from eating the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days, so refrain from eating as much as you wish. I forbade you from drinking wine except in a waterskin, so drink from all waterskins, and do not drink intoxicants.” Saheeh al-Nasa’i 5223
From these evidences from the Prophetic hadeeths and linguistic interpretations, we conclude the following:
1- All wine is wine, but not all wine is wine.
2- The wine that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to drink was water in which a little date juice had been soaked, and it is like juice that has not fermented and become intoxicating wine like the common wine. It is well-known and is not hidden from anyone that wine is not fermented or boiled juices.
3- We see in the hadeeths the difference between intoxicating wine , which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade, and wine, which is permissible to drink before it is boiled.
The second question: Mention different types of wine?
Answer:
Al-Naqeer: The base of the palm tree, the middle of which is hollowed out and then
the bit’: honey wine
and date wine are made into it,
and the mizr: barley wine.
Enough of this, let us summarize and enter into the question of the Crusaders:
The hadith that the Christians did not understand:
Ruh told us, Hammad told us, on the authority of Hamid, on the authority of Bakr bin Abdullah, that an Arab said to Ibn Abbas, “What is the matter with the family of Muawiyah, that they provide water and honey, and the family of so-and-so provide milk, and you provide wine? Is it because of your stinginess or need?” Ibn Abbas said, “We are not stingy or needy, but the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came to us, accompanied by Usama bin Zaid, and asked for a drink, so we gave him some of this, meaning the wine of the water-carrying vessel, and he drank from it and said, ‘You did well, so do as you please
.’ What is more expensive and high-priced? Water, milk, honey, or dates?”
We make the answer easy for you: In the Arabian desert, date trees are abundant, while we find it difficult to obtain water, milk and honey in this desert environment.
Therefore, my brother and those who seek the truth, the wine that is available, free and cheap is date wine that Egyptians make in Ramadan before breakfast, and it is what the Prophet drank in the hadith because people accused the Abbasids of being stingy for using date wine and not wine, which is expensive compared to water, milk and honey
. That is, if the wine that the Prophet drank was wine, the Abbasids would not have been accused of being stingy because wine is more expensive than water, milk and honey.
Some evidence on the fly to clarify
the first hadith:
4386 - Ishaq narrated to us, Khalid narrated to us, on the authority of Al-Shaibani, on the authority of Saeed bin Abi Burdah, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari - may God be pleased with him - that the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - sent him to Yemen and asked him about the drinks that are made there. He said: “What are they?” He said: “Bit’ and Mizr.” I said to Abu Burdah, “What is bit’?” He said, “It is honey wine, and mizr is barley wine.” He said, “Every intoxicant is forbidden.” Narrated by Jarir and Abdul Wahid on the authority of Al-Shaibani on the authority of Abu Burdah.
The second hadith:
I command you to do four things and forbid you from four things: Belief in Allah. Do you know what belief in Allah is? It is the testimony that there is no god but Allah, establishing prayer, paying zakat, fasting Ramadan, and giving one-fifth of the spoils of war. I forbid you from four things: what is kept in a gourd, and a small date-stone. And wheat and tarred dates. 4411 Al-Bukhari
Al-Naqeer: The base of the palm tree is hollowed out in the middle and then wine is made from it
. The third hadith:
5644 - Abdullah bin Yusuf told us, Malik told us, on the authority of Ibn Shihab, on the authority of Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman, that Aisha said, The Messenger of Allah - may Allah bless him and grant him peace - was asked about bit’ (honey wine), so he said, “Every drink that intoxicates is forbidden.” The
decisive hadith and the ruling in the case No. 3305
: The Messenger of Allah said, -May God bless him and grant him peace- “I have forbidden you from visiting graves, so visit them. I have forbidden you from eating the meat of sacrifices for more than three days, so refrain from eating as much as you wish. I have forbidden you from drinking wine except in a waterskin, so drink from all the waterskins.” Ibn Numayr said in his narration on the authority of Abdullah bin Buraydah on the authority of Abu Hula: Do not drink intoxicants.
Hadiths specific to dates and dates:
5262
The Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - said: “Do not mix fresh dates and unripe dates, and do not mix raisins and dates to make wine.”
5267:
The Messenger of Allah - may Allah bless him and grant him peace - said: “Whoever among you drinks wine, let him drink it as raisins, individually, or as unripe dates, individually, or as dates.”
Thus, my brother and you who are searching for the truth, the extent of the Crusaders’ ignorance of the Arabic language and the principles of reading has become clear to you, as well as their hatred of Islam and its great Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
Now, do you have any argument left???
By the way, the last hadith is an educational hadith, and I challenge Pope Shenouda and the great Christians in the language to understand anything from it. Hahaha.
Who drank the wine? Muhammad or Jesus?
The Holy Bible acknowledges that the first miracles of the Lord Jesus were in favor of the drunkards, the alcoholics, the addicts, and the drinkers of wine. Here is the evidence from the Gospel:
1- The Gospel of John 2/3 (1. Now on the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
2 Now Jesus and his disciples were invited to the wedding.
3 And when the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”
4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what have I to do with you? My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever he tells you, do it.”
6 Now there were set there six stone waterpots, according to the custom of Jewish purification, holding two or three pints apiece.
7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he said to them, “Draw out some now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it.
9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that had been made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who drew the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom
to him. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then that which is worse; but you have kept the good wine until now.”
11 This beginning of signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
The second text condemns
Jesus. The Gospel of Luke 7/34
34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, “Behold a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.”
But you are the judge, you people of reason .
And our final prayer is that praise be to God, Lord of the worlds.
