The expansion of the universe in the Qur’an and Sunnah

All praise is due to Allah, we praise Him, seek His aid, ask for His guidance and ask for His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah, the Most High, the Almighty, from the evils of our souls. He conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, advised the nation, and Allah, the Almighty, removed the distress through him. He strove in Allah’s cause as it should be striven until the certainty (death) came to him. May Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family. And among our evil deeds is he whom Allah guides, none can misguide him, and he whom He misguides, none can guide him. Recite and submit and bear witness that there is no god but Allah, One in Himself, Unique in His attributes, Unique in His actions. He does not beget, nor was He begotten, and there is none comparable to Him. I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, the chosen one among His creation and His beloved. May Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family.
Some ask, is there in Islam something that indicates this infinite vastness of the universe? The answer is yes, the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah
have indicated that cosmic expansion has occurred in the past and present. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace, said in what was narrated by Muslim and others and authenticated by Al-Albani: “Paradise has one hundred levels, between each two levels is like the distance between the heaven and the earth.” This hadith is an indication of the vastness of the cosmic distances. We know that Paradise is infinite in thickness. Allah, the Most High, said in Surat Al-Baqarah: “It is He who created for you all that is on the earth. Then He directed Himself to the heaven and made them seven heavens. And He is Knowing of all things.” (29) These seven heavens are the ones that were split from the initial heaven. Allah, the Most High, said in Surat An-Nazi’at: “Are you more difficult to create?” Or the heaven He constructed (27) He raised its thickness and proportioned it (28) “So He raised the thickness is a sign that the commentators understood as the separation of the parts. And God Almighty said in Surat Adh-Dhariyat: “And the heaven We constructed with power, and indeed, We are expanding it.” (47) “ The expander is an active participle of God Almighty, and it includes an actual attribute of God Almighty, which is the attribute of expansion. In his research on the divine names, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Radwani divided the names of God Almighty into absolute names , which we call the beautiful names, and restricted names, which are what the scholars of faith called the news names. Among the news names of God Almighty is the name Al-Musaww’, for He is the One who expands the heaven. Modern science has proven the truth of the Noble Qur’an on this point. Narrations have been narrated from Ibn Masoud and Al-Abbas, may God Almighty be pleased with them, indicating the distances between the heavens, but they are different narrations in raising them and what It concerns us that the Holy Qur’an preceded modern science by centuries in the issue of the separation of cosmic distances and the continuation of this separation. Do secularists understand? Amen.

One of them is explicitly stated in Surat Adh-Dhariyat, the second is implicit in Surat An-Nazi’at, and the third is implicit in Surat Ar-Rahman
: {And the heaven He raised and set up the balance} [Ar-Rahman: 7].
The doubt that the ignorant people of falsehood cast is that the Salaf did not understand these verses as experimental science has informed us. This is due to the ignorance and false argumentation that they live on.
This follower Abd Al-Rahman bin Zaid bin Aslam did not even know the word telescope or observatory. He understood this, and the first century AH had not yet passed, and perhaps it had not yet passed. Imam At-Tabari, may Allah have mercy on him,
said: Ibn Zaid said about this:
Yunus told me, he said: Ibn Wahb told us, he said: Ibn Zaid said, in His statement: {And indeed, We are expanding it} he said: He, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, expanded it.
This Salafi scholar Al-Zajjaj also understood this in the first charitable centuries.
Ibn Al-Jawzi said: “In His statement: ï´?And indeed, We are expandingï´¾ there are five sayings: One of them: We are expanding the provision with rain, said Al-Hasan. The second: We are expanding the sky, said Ibn Zayd. The third: We are able, said Ibn Qutaybah. The fourth: We are expanding what is between the sky and the earth, said Al-Zajjaj. The fifth: He has vastness and is not constrained by what He wants, narrated by Al-Mawardi.”
And this is Muqatil bin Sulayman in the second century AH saying in his interpretation
{And indeed, We are expanding} [verse: 47] meaning We are able to expand it as We want. Al-
Suyuti narrated from the follower Ibn Jurayj, may God have mercy on him, a similar statement, saying:
Ibn Jarir and Ibn Al-Mundhir narrated from Ibn Jurayj, may God be pleased with him, in His statement {And indeed, We are expanding} he said: We will create a sky like it. And in His statement {And the earth We have spread out, so excellent is it} [verse: 47] {Al-Mahidoon} He said: Al-Farshoon.
It is known that the Holy Quran has many aspects, and as long as the predecessors understood one aspect of its aspects, then it is that one. They understood the expansion of the meaning that experimental science brought, so I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, the Revealer of the Great Quran, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and I bear witness that no one disbelieves in this Prophet after this except he who fools himself and in the Hereafter will be among the losers.
