The response to the lie that Abu Afak was killed while he was sleeping
This doubt has been answered thousands of times, and yet the Christians continue to repeat it, knowing that the story is false and weak, namely the story of killing Abu Afak while he was asleep. Their biggest objection to this fabricated story is that the killing took place while Abu Afak was asleep.
We will respond to this point, God willing, in the following points:
1. Clarifying the weakness of the chains of transmission of the story and its invalidity.
2. Clarifying that Abu Afak deserved to be killed for breaking the covenant of Medina and inciting against the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him (assuming the narration is correct). 3. Obligating the Christians to abide by what is in their books about killing people while they are asleep . First: Clarification of the weakness of the chains of transmission of the story and its invalidity : The first narration : Al-Waqidi’s Maghazi: ((Saeed bin Muhammad told us, on the authority of Umara bin Ghaziya [(33)], and Abu Mus’ab Ismail bin Mus’ab bin Ismail bin Zaid bin Thabit told us, on the authority of his sheikhs, they said: An old man from Banu Amr bin Awf was called Abu Afak, and he was an old man, he had reached one hundred and twenty years of age when [(44)] The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to Madinah, and he was inciting people to enmity towards the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), but he did not enter Islam. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out to Badr, he returned and Allah had granted him victory with what He granted him....)) Verification: The narration is weak for three reasons: 1. The ambiguity in the narration and the ignorance of the sheikhs of Ismail bin Mus`ab . 2. Ismail bin Mus`ab is unknown. Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned him in Al-Jarh wa Al-Ta`dil, Part Two, Page 199, without any criticism or approval: ((672 - Ismail bin Mus`ab bin Ismail bin Zaid bin Thabit narrated on the authority of... [Narrated - 8] Abdullah bin Omar (99) bin Aban bin Saleh Al-Ja’fi on the authority of Idris bin Ibrahim bin Yahya bin Zaid bin Thabit on his authority.)) 3. Al-Waqidi is weak . We read in Tahdhib al-Kamal by Imam al-Mizzi, Part 26: ((Zakariya bin Yahya al-Saji said: Muhammad bin Umar bin Waqid al-Aslami, the judge of Baghdad, is accused . Ahmad bin Muhammad told me, saying: I heard Ahmad bin Hanbal say: We did not stop defending al-Waqidi’s matter until he narrated on the authority of Muammar, on the authority of al-Zuhri, on the authority of Nabhan, on the authority of Umm Salamah, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace: “Are you both blind?” Then he came up with something that was beyond our control. The hadith is the hadith of Yunus, and no one else narrated it . Abu Ja`far al-`Uqayli said: `Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal told us, saying: My father told me, saying: I heard Wakee’ say.... He said: And I heard my father another time saying: I have no doubt that al-Waqidi was turning them upside down, meaning the hadiths. He said: He attributes the hadith of Yunus to Muammar. Al-Bukhari said: Al-Waqidi was from Medina and lived in Baghdad. His hadith is rejected. Ahmad, Ibn Numayr, Ibn al-Mubarak, and Ismail bin Zakariya rejected him. He said in another place: He is a liar. Ahmad. Muawiyah bin Saleh said: Ahmad bin Hanbal told me: He is a liar. Muawiyah also said about Yahya bin Ma’in: Weak. He said in another place: He is nothing.
And he said in another place: I said to Yahya: Why did you not inform him of it since you had the book? He said: I am shy of his son, and he is a friend of mine.
I said: What do you say about him? He said: He used to change the hadith of Yunus, changing it from Muammar . He is not trustworthy. Abbas al
-Duri said about Yahya bin Ma'in: He is nothing .
Abdul Wahhab bin al-Furat al-Hamadani said: I asked Yahya bin Ma'in about al-Waqidi, and he said: He is not trustworthy . Al-Mughirah bin Muhammad al-Mahlabi said: I heard Ali bin al-Madini say: Al-Haytham bin Adi is more trustworthy to me than al-Waqidi, and I do not accept him in hadith, genealogy, or anything. Abu Dawud said: I was told by someone who heard Ali bin al-Madini say: Al-Waqidi narrated thirty thousand strange hadiths. Muslim said: His hadith is abandoned . Al-Nasa'i said: He is not trustworthy . Al-Hakim Abu Ahmad said: #God #Hadith )) The second narration is the campaigns of Al-Waqidi ((So Ma’n bin Umar told me: Ibn Ruqaysh told me: Abu Afak was killed in Shawwal, at the beginning of twenty months.)) Verification: The narration is not authentic for two reasons: 1. The transmission is from Saeed bin Abdul Rahman bin Yazid bin Ruqaysh 2. Al-Waqidi is weak (and we have previously explained his weakness in Al-A’la, which makes it unnecessary to repeat it) The third narration : The biography of Ibn Hisham ((Ibn Ishaq said: And the campaign of Salim bin Umair to kill Abu Afak, one of [p. 6366] Banu Amr bin Awf, then from Banu Ubaidah, and his hypocrisy had become apparent, when the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, killed Al-Harith bin Suwaid bin Samit, so he said: I have lived for a long time and I have not seen among the people a house or a gathering more faithful to covenants And he who is faithful to his covenant among them, when he calls upon the sons of Qaylah to gather them, he shakes the mountains and they do not submit, so a rider splits them, and he comes to them with lawful and unlawful things for various reasons together. So if you believe in honor or follow the kingdom, follow. So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: Who will I get this wicked one? So Salim bin Umair, the brother of Banu Amr bin Awf, who was one of the weepers, came out and killed him. So Umamah Al-Muzairiyah said about that: You deny the religion of Allah and the man Ahmad for Umar who gave you security. What a bad hope a Hanif bestows upon you at the end of the night, a stab wound to Abu Afak. Take it despite your old age. Verification: The narration is not authentic because it is transmitted by Ibn Ishaq, and he was born in the year eighty after the Hijra!! We read in the Biographies of the Nobles by Imam Al-Dhahabi, may God have mercy on him, Part Six: ((Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar bin Khiar, and it was said: Ibn Kuthan, the scholar, preserver, and historian... Ibn Ishaq was born in the year eighty and saw Anas bin Malik in Medina, and Saeed bin Al-Musayyab.)) Second: Assuming the story is true, Abu Afak deserved to be killed because he broke and betrayed the covenant of Medina . Abu Afak, according to the fabricated story, incited against the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, with his poetry, and with this incitement he became a traitor and a breaker of the covenant of Medina and became deserving of the punishment of treason. We read from the weak narration that the lying Al-Waqidi transmitted in his Maghazi:
Sa`id ibn Muhammad narrated to us, on the authority of `Amārah ibn Ghazīyah [(3)], and Abu Mus`ab Isma`il ibn Mus`ab ibn Isma`il ibn Zayd ibn Thabit narrated to us, on the authority of his sheikhs, who said:
An old man from Banu `Amr ibn `Awf, whose name was Abu `Afak, was a very old man, and he had reached the age of one hundred and twenty years when [(4)] the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, came. In Medina, he was inciting enmity against the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, but he did not enter Islam . When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, went out to Badr and returned, and God had given him victory over what he had given him, he envied him
and acted unjustly, so he said: I have lived for a while and I have not seen... among the people a house or
a gathering place of people who are more intelligent [ (1) ] and he came to... a penitent [ (2) ] quickly when he called, and he took
away their matter from them, a rider... unlawful and lawful
for various reasons together. If it were in the kingdom you would have believed... and in victory you would have followed Tubba’.
Salim bin Umair, one of the weepers from Banu Najjar, said: I have vowed to kill Abu Afak or die trying to save him. So he waited and asked for a surprise for him, until it was a summer night, and Abu Afak slept in the courtyard in the summer with Banu Amr ibn Awf, then Salim ibn Umair came and put the sword on his liver until it penetrated the bed.
However, the weak narration of Ibn Ishaq contradicted the aforementioned context, as it mentioned that the reason for killing Abu Afak was his apostasy and his display of disbelief by insulting the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. This means that his killing was the application of the punishment for apostasy, not the killing of a covenant-breaker .
We read the weak narration in the biography of Ibn Hisham, Part Two:
((Ibn Ishaq said: The raid of Salim bin Umair to kill Abu Afak, one of the sons of Amr bin Auf, then from the sons of Ubaidah, and his hypocrisy had become apparent , when the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, killed Al-Harith bin Suwaid bin Samit ...))
The weakness of the chain of transmission saves us from any effort.
Third: Obligating the Christians with what is in their books (She threw her disease at me and slipped away)
Let us see how the Holy Book and the interpreters of the Holy Book encourage killing people while they are asleep. Jael killed Sisera by treachery while he was sleeping:
We read from the Book of Judges, Chapter 4:
14 Then Deborah said to Barak, Arise, for this is the day that the Lord has delivered Sisera into your hand. Has not the Lord gone out before you? So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men followed him
. 15 And the Lord disturbed Sisera and all the chariots and all the army with the edge of the sword before Barak. 16 Then Sisera got down from the chariot and fled on foot
. 17 And Barak pursued the chariots and the army to Harosheth of the Gentiles. And all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not one was left.
17 But Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite , for there had been peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite
. 18 Then Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; do not be afraid.” So he turned in to her into the tent, and she covered him with the blanket
. 19Then he said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.” So she opened the milk tub and gave him a drink, then covered him
. 20 Then he said to her, “Stand at the door of the tent, and if anyone comes and asks you, ‘Is there a man here?’ you will say, ‘No.’
” 21 Then Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and put the stick in her hand. Then she went to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went into the ground. But he was heavy in sleep and weary , and he died.
22 And behold, Barak pursued Sisera. And Jael went out to meet him and said, “Come, I will show you the man you are looking for.” 23 So
God humbled Jabin king of Canaan that day before the children of Israel.
24 And the hand of the children of Israel increased and became harsh against Jabin king of Canaan until they cut off Jabin king of Canaan.
So here is Jael receiving her thirsty guest, and between her family and him there is an alliance. Then she makes him drunk so that he sleeps, and she kills him while he is asleep. Thus God gave victory to the children of Israel and humbled Canaan.
This action was met by Jael, and the church did not deny it. On the contrary, Jael represents the church, and her strike represents the teachings of the church and the Christian faith, even if she deceived Sisera with lies and killed him while he was asleep!!!
We read from the interpretation of Tadros Maltese:
((The word "Jael" means (ibex), that is, a type of mountain goat. Jael, as we said, represents the Church of the Nations . It was previously a mountain goat that inhabited the deserts. She and her husband were in alliance with Sisera (Satan). Now, when Sisera went to her tent without her husband's tent, realizing that no one could enter this tent if she denied the presence of anyone in her hospitality because she was a woman. The strange thing is that he found her coming out to receive him with words that seemed very nice, even though she had deceived him with lies and killed him, which is contrary to the duties of hospitality . Perhaps Jael did this not of herself, but through an announcement in one way or another, because Sisera was an ally of her husband. In this, she represented the Church that came out of her old tent or her old man in order to appear as if she was receiving Sisera, so she would kill Satan from her life and her tent would become a grave for the enemy and a sanctuary for the Lord. In other words, if the tent represents the body that hosted Satan with its lusts, then through divine grace man declares his denial of the enemy of good and all His works, so that the body that kills lusts and carries the Spirit of the Lord within it becomes sanctified.
Sisera asked for a little water so that he would appear to be greedy for nothing, and it was enough for her to host him and save his life, so she gave him milk from the sapwood, which is usually made of leather in which milk is placed and ferments... as if she had intoxicated him until he fell asleep with extreme fatigue and exhaustion, and thus her plan was fulfilled. This milk is nothing but the teachings of faith that quench the soul of the believer and intoxicate it with the love of God, but it is deadly to Satan and destructive to him.
Sisera dies at the hand of a woman with the wooden stake in her hand, as she approached him (she walked towards him on the tips of her toes), to strike him with the stake in his temple so that it would penetrate the ground while he was heavy asleep and he would die [11]. In other words, let the devil's desires be fulfilled in us by the hand of the Church, the bride of Christ, who carries the cross (the stake), lightly and quickly striking the devil in the head, that is, at the beginning of his thoughts while he is still sound asleep, before he enters with his thoughts into the depths to awaken and take possession. Let us strike with the cross in his temple, that is, let us reject his thoughts and crucify them, so that our depths may be purified for the Lord's sake. ...))

search the scriptures and remove the speck from your eyes.
exciting story documented in 2 Samuel chapter 4:
4- Now Jonathan Saul's son had a son who was crippled in both feet. He was five years old when news came of Saul and Jonathan from Jezreel. And his nurse took him up and fled. And as she was hastening to flee, he fell and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.
5 Then the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went and came in the heat of the day to the house of Ish-bosheth , while he slept at noon.
6 And they went into the midst of the house to get wheat, and struck him in the stomach. Then Rechab and his brother Baanah escaped.
7- And when they entered the house, he was lying on his bed in his bedroom. So they struck him and killed him and cut off his head. They took his head and went by the Arabah way all night.
